Items To Take To Rehab

What Can I Have With Me In Therapy

After deciding to enrol for a rehab it is essential to understand the kind of items you will be allowed to bring into the centres along with any private items which the treatment centres will not allow.

Some items are prohibited in the rehab centres. Majority of facilities give you a list of permitted and prohibited items.

The admission process begins as soon as you check in. Part of the procedure is the inspection of your personal effects to make sure that there are no contrabands and other prohibited objects are smuggled in. Many inpatient facilities record the stuff you bring in their database in order to ensure none of your stuff is left behind when you check out.

You can carry the necessities with yourself. Different centres have different policies in place for extra stuff.

Looking For Packing Info

Most rehab centres have their own website featuring a "What to Pack" webpage, where you will find information regarding what is allowed. In case this page is missing, you must check the FAQ page which too can contain packing information. Many centres give their future patients a packing checklist which you can refer to. Contact your clinic's admission office if you don't find the material you need. They will be able to provide you all the answers to any questions you may have about what you can bring. At the same time, they can walk you through and guide you on what to expect prior, during and after admission.

Items That Most Clinics Endorse

The policy of every rehab centre is different, and some can be expected to be stricter than the others.

These are some of the things that you will find allowed in most rehabs:

  • Jewellery that means the most value to you just like an engagement or wedding ring.
  • Other items can just be left at home.
  • An alarm clock.
  • Some centres are known to supply these items, and therefore, it would be better to verify this particular item before venturing out into the market to purchase them.
  • You can also carry any prescription medications which you are presently using provided that they are in their original pharmacy bottle, and the original information from the label is intact.
  • It is recommended that all liquid medications be newly purchased and sealed.

Some Items Are Allowed In Rehab While Others Are Not

Each rehab has its own rules which may be different to that of another rehab. You may wonder but some centres allow these items inside the facility:

  • Cell phone and Laptop
  • The laptops and pcs are restricted in some places while allowed in others depending on the rehabs policies.
  • You must ensure that you do not forget your power cords.
  • Cigarettes
  • Some facilities will allow you to bring in cigarettes if you are a smoker.
  • However, you may be restricted in the number of cigarettes you are to take in a day.
  • Multivitamins and OTC Drugs
  • As long as they are new and never opened during admission.
  • Gum
  • It must be unopened and sealed.
  • Music and CD Player
  • You might be permitted to bring along entertainment devices that can work without speakers and internet.
  • Camera
  • Cameras are allowed by some treatment centres.
  • Disposable Razor or Electric Razor
  • Razors are considered as dangerous and some centres are known to prohibit them completely.
  • Most of the times, throwaway razors are permitted.
  • Nail Clippers
  • Clippers are allowed although some centres consider this as a contraband.
  • Objects That Make You Feel At Home
  • You may have permission to bring your own bedding, pillows, and objects that help you feel relaxed.
  • It is best to call up the rehab centre and check if they allow such items.

Can I Have Prohibited Items Back Later On

If you arrive at the centres with some prohibited items without realisation you do not have to remain concerned. The forbidden objects that you carried to the clinic will be given back to the person who took you there. In case you got no one with you at the time of admission, they will hold the item for 24 hours until your representative can claim it. Other centres will just keep them for your and return the same once you have cleared the program and leave the centre.

There are higher probabilities that you will go to a clinic alone if you reached the centre by plane. You are therefore recommended to call your rehab centres before you leave home to double check their policies. You would obviously want any prohibited items that you've brought along by mistake to be returned to you when you leave. In case they do not do temporary safe keeping, then inquire if they can facilitate shipment to someone you know.

Packing For Rehabilitation Can Be Easy Read and stick to the policies of your centre; in case of a doubt, call them up. Ask for a checklist whenever available so you can use as a guide. The best thing is to make sure that you have essential stuff with you.
